Sharon Morrisey
has served as the Consumer Horticulture Agent for the University of Wisconsin-Extension
in Milwaukee County since May of 1992. She moved to Wisconsin from Stamford, Connecticut
where she had served as the director of the University of Connecticut's Bartlett
Arboretum for four years. She is now a tenured faculty member of the UW-System.
A native
of Illinois, Morrisey received her bachelor's and master's degrees in ornamental
horticulture from the University of Illinois in Urbana. She specialized in woody
landscape plants and landscape design. She is the author of a book entitled "Large
Flowering Shrubs for the Midwest" which is published by the Illinois Cooperative
Extension Service.
As Milwaukee
County's Consumer Horticulture Agent, Sharon serves as educator and advisor to
the UW-Extension Master Gardener volunteers in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. She
is also the director of the Buds 'n Sprouts youth gardening program which provides
educational garden-related activities for youth in school and recreation programs.
Sharon is
also a well-known gardening expert in Milwaukee, Wisconsin area newspapers, radio
and television. She writes the monthly garden calendar in the Milwaukee Journal
Sentinel newspaper, and appears regularly as a featured guest on Milwaukee NBC
affiliate, WTMJ-TV.
